Transgender
When Jim and Sasha Allen were able to make it on The Voice Live Shows, they were able to make history since Sasha was the first openly transgender performer on the NBC contest show that made it through the Battle Rounds in the entire 21 seasons of the show. Now the duo from Newtown, Conn., has gone one step higher to make it into the top 8! Sasha announced that he is transgender and was featured in their Blind Auditions package. He admitted to Parade.com it took some thought in making that choice. Sasha made the transition in highschool, and stated that it was challenging to disclose such a vulnerable side of himself to so many people. Last week, during the Fan Week, watching the support from people and their reactions, and how it affected them that it was well-worth the risk. "We did it prior to when The Voice was even a thing in our lives. It was a great surprise. We had already heard the track and were thinking of ways to structure it. It was quite amazing in the extent to which they have hit the nail on the head."
